Special Feeding Recommendations
Elevating your Bloodhound’s food and water bowls so he doesn’t have to lean down to eat can help avoid bloat, the consequences of which can be fatal.  Never feed a Bloodhound foods that have corn, wheat or soy. Stay away from food with cheap fillers, sugars, sweeteners, artificial flavors, colors and preservatives.  You want to feed as naturally as possible so focus on a high end holistic, grain-free foods. Real meat should always be the first ingredient followed by a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.  Some other important ingredients to look for is taurine to support heart health.  A balance of calcium and phosphorus for stronger teeth and bones. Glucosamine to protect joints. DHA to support healthy brain development. Prebiotics play a very important role in your Bloonhounds long term health. When combined with physical exercise, a nutritional diet can help prevent health problems in your Bloodhound and enable him to live a long and healthy life.

Nutritional Requirements
Bloodhounds are susceptible to hypothyroidism, which is when the thyroid gland doesn’t produce sufficient amounts of thyroxine. Iodine and protein molecules in the thyroid gland combine to produce thyroxine. When iodine levels are too low, mood, energy, and weight imbalances are common. You can supplement the lack of natural thyroxine by providing natural forms of iodine for your Bloodhound’s thyroid gland to utilize. The best form of iodine for your Bloodhound can be found naturally in seaweed, cod, plain yogurt, bananas, and cheese. You should avoid giving your Bloodhound artificial forms of iodine.
