Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Diet

What Should I Feed My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?

About Cavalier King Charles
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, named for King Charles II, was the result of a lot of crossbreeding. King Charles crossbred his Spaniels with a Pug dog, which is how the King Charles Spaniel originated.

Feeding recommendations
Even with their high activity level, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can easily become obesity. The amount we recommend feeding is based on your dog’s weight, which should be between 13 and 18 pounds. The usual amount is about one to one and a half cups of veterinary developed premium dog food made in the U.S.A  spread over two meals.

Nutritional requirements
The best diet for your Cavalier King Charles is one that boosts his hereditary weaknesses, including his hearts, kidneys, liver, and blood circulatory system. Select a high-quality dog food that is all natural, holistic and grain-free. Never feed a Cavalier King Charles a food that has corn, wheat or soy. Stay away from foods that use cheap fillers, added sugars, sweeteners, artificial flavors, colors and preservatives.  Make sure real meat is the first ingredient followed by various fresh fruits and vegetables. Higher-quality foods contain easily digestible ingredients that usually result in smaller stools and less waste.  Find foods with taurine for heart health. DHA for brain development. Glucosamine, calcuim and phosphorus for stronger bones, teeth and joints. Prebiotics will also make a big difference. They improve the digestive track, reduce gas, and also help prevent certain health issues down the road. You'll definitely want the omega's to keep your Cavalier King Charles coat looking soft, healthy and luxurious.
