Chinese Crested Diet

What Should I Feed My Chinese Crested?

About Chinese Cresteds
The hairless Chinese Crested dog may or may not have originated in China; there is a healthy debate surrounding the issue. However, none exist there anymore. Over the last 500 years, the Chinese Crested dog has been a native to the seaside villages of South America and the West Indies.

Feeding Recommendations
The amount you feed will vary depending on his age and weight but it should be spread out over the day in two separate meals.

Nutritional Requirements
With this breed, if you purchase a low end food because it's costs less then you're asking for health or skin issues. Feed a high-end holistic, grain-free, antioxidant rich food. Never feed a Chinese Crested  a food that has corn, wheat or soy. Stay away from foods that use cheap fillers, added sugars, sweeteners, artificial flavors, colors and preservatives.  It is critical to make sure real meat is the first ingredient followed by various fresh fruits and vegetables. Higher-quality foods contain easily digestible ingredients that usually result in smaller stools and less waste. Yah!  Find foods with taurine for heart health. You'll want a food with DHA to support brain development. Glucosamine, calcuim and phosphorus for stronger bones, teeth and joints. Prebiotics will also make a big difference. Not only do they improve the digestive track, reduce gas, and also help prevent certain health issues later on but they allow your Chinese Crested to absorb more nutrients from it's food. You'll definitely want the omega's in the diet to keep their furnishing and skin looking soft, healthy and luxurious.

What Brand is Best
Diet and nutrition is probably one of the most important decisions you will make for your pet because it affects their long-term health, immune system, vital organs, condition of their teeth, coat and even affects their lifespan, so educate yourself and choose wisely.
