Finnish Lapphund Diet

What Do I Feed My Finnish Lapphund?

About Finnish Lapphunds

The hard-working Finnish Lapphund dog breed originated in the far north of Finland in the region of Lapland, where he earned his keep herding reindeer. Today he enjoys other jobs such as therapy work, obedience training, and agility. He is friendly toward people and gentle with children, making him an ideal companion dog.

Feeding Recommendations
We recommend feeding your Finnish Lapphund one to two cups of high-quality, premium dry dog food, made in the U.S.A. by veterinarians. The slower metabolism of northern dog breeds combined with being greedy eating habits means they have a tendency to gain weight easily if overfed, so it’s best to spread their daily food requirements over two meals. Good feeding practices and proper exercise from the beginning are crucial for the continued good health of your pet for his entire life.

Nutritional Requirements
Finnish Lapphunds need a well-balanced diet enriched with essential nutrients and vitamins. Real meat should be listed first on the ingredient label, followed by fruits and vegetables. Avoid any food containing by-products, chicken meal, or beef meal. Foods rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids will keep your Finnish Lapphund’s coat shiny and his skin healthy. The ideal food is one that is blended particularly for him.

What Brand is Best
Diet and nutrition is probably one of the most important decisions you will make for your pet because it affects their long-term health, immune system, vital organs, condition of their teeth, coat and even affects their lifespan, so educate yourself and choose wisely.
