Feeding Recommendations
Leos are huge dogs that require a tremendous amount of high-quality, dry dog food. We recommend feeding your Leo eight to ten cups of dog food spread out over five meals daily. Elevate your Leonberger's food and water bowls at a height so that he just has to slightly tilt his head to eat instead of leaning down. This will help avoid torsion and bloat, which is fatal in giant breed dogs. To prevent bad breath, tooth decay, and gum disease, only feed your Leo premium, all-natural dry kibble. Choose a holistic, grain-free formula developed by veterinarians and made in the U.S.A. Grains including soy, corn, and wheat are allergen-causing fillers with no nutritional value that can lead to serious health problems.

Nutritional Requirements
Your Leo’s nutritional needs must be met to ensure optimum health, so food specially formulated for giant breeds is necessary. Protein content should be no more than 22 percent to protect against hypertrophic osteodystrophy and panosteitis and promote kidney health. A low fat content (nine percent or less) protects against heart disease. Real meat should be listed first on the label, followed by a variety of fruits and vegetables, which help his body absorb the nutrients in his food. A formula blended to meet his unique needs is best.
