Lhasa Apso Diet

What Do I Feed My Lhasa Apso?

About Lhasa Apsos
The Lhasa Apso dog originates from Tibet, where he was a highly regarded Royal watchdog in the monasteries and palaces of his mountainous homeland. Although the Lhasa is small in stature, he is a sturdy and independent dog. The modern Lhasa is no longer a palace guard but continues to be a loyal guardian of family and home.

Feeding Requirements
We recommend feeding your Lhasa Apso three-quarters to one cup of high-quality, premium dry dog food, divided into two meals daily to help avoid bloat, which is fatal in small dogs. Make sure to select a grain-free formula, in particular, one that does not contain wheat, corn, or soy. These grains are fillers with no nutritional value that lead to allergies, which is common in Lhasa Apso dogs and can create serious health problems. Also, look for a dog food made in the U.S.A. and developed by veterinarians.

Nutritional Requirements
Your Lhasa Apso loves to eat, so keeping him trim is essential to his overall health. Choosing food with a balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids is important to help maintain and protect your Lhasa’s joints, skin, and bones. The proper foundation is a healthy diet that provides the ideal combination of fats, carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Your Lhasa Apso's long hair makes him prone to dry skin. He needs a formula with enough healthy fats to ensure a shiny coat and healthy skin. It will also provide him with an abundance of energy. Real meat should be the first ingredient on the label, followed by plenty of fruits and vegetables to help him absorb essential nutrients. The best food is one that is specially created to meet his individual requirements, such as age, level of activity, and any existing health issues.
